# U.S. Coast Guard Update: NMC and REC Closures

The U.S. Coast Guard has announced that, due to the government shutdown, the National Maritime Center (NMC) and all Regional Examination Centers (RECs) are closed **until further notice.**

This closure directly impacts mariners and operators who depend on these centers for credentialing, examinations, and other services.

## What’s Affected

- Walk-in services at RECs are closed
- Examinations and appointments are cancelled
- Credentialing processes may be delayed until operations resume

## What This Means for Mariners and Companies

While we don’t know how long these closures will last, we do know they will create delays. That’s why it’s important to plan ahead.

- Expect longer wait times for credentials and exams
- Don’t wait until the last minute to complete credentialing steps
- Be prepared for processes to take longer than normal once services reopen
